Kids can change the world on a 4×6 index card.  It can be that simple, our world has made it too difficult for students to make an impact.  What if… A project that started with one kid, one card and one dream has become a states dream that is giving the opportunity to hundreds of thousands of kids. A simple handmade card is teaching a lesson in life that will touch the hearts and souls of thousands. Union’s Ninth grader Kenzie Chabino is the program’s founder.  The program started with Kenzie and her mother, Heather, heading a quest to create one million handmade cards that are made by children of all ages.

It has grown beyond their imagination and in January 2012, Kenzie’s Cause partnered with Oklahoma PTA and the youth involvement committee by getting a proclamation from Governor Mary Fallin to proclaim Thursday, October 25, 2012 as “Oklahoma Gift of Giving Day”.

In the last couple of months, several area sponsors have supported this amazing project and over 220,500 cards have been sent out to over 441 local PTA’s in Oklahoma. The cards will be made and delivered in the weeks to come. “The point of this is to teach kids that gifts don’t have to come off of store shelves, they can be as simple as a handmade card and has a bigger impact on others than something you can buy”, states Kenzie Chabino.

Kids have made over 211,000 cards within the Kenzie’s Cause program thus far.  The card program not only opens the door to discuss the importance of giving something only time and love will buy but it also give them the opportunity to be linked to our community by giving them encouragement on a 4×6 index card.

One of the “Gifts of Giving Celebration” will be at Lee Elementary which is located at 1920 S. Cincinnati Avenue Tulsa, OK 74119.  It will begin promptly at 9:45 am. We will have special guests along with just a few of the most amazing kids in Oklahoma.
